His mother told Shin Min Daily News: “I got so worried I called the police. I didn’t  expect him to be arrested and jailed.”

He ended up behind bars for five years.

But the woman, too, was no angel, according to her own mother. She has been in jail three times for drug-related offences.

She started getting hooked on drugs after she dropped out in Secondary 2, her  mother said.

She had last seen her daughter on Wednesday and she appeared “her usual self”.

And she insisted on keeping the baby even though a doctor had advised her to abort the child, her mother added.

The doctor had detected complications with the foetus’ kidney. The child was eventually born with kidney problems and an operation has been scheduled on Friday, she said.

Added the mother: “She said she had already developed feelings for the child and refused to abort it.

“She said that after she had given birth, she would look for a job so she could provide for the child, but she didn’t manage to do that.”
