Go for gold, says Chi-ling
by Joy Fang

METALLICS are certainly the in-thing this season.

From Max Mara to Blugirl and Dries Van Noten, the runways have been awash with all things shiny and shimmery.

Celebrities such as Nicole Ritchie and Kirsten Dunst have also been seen out and about in metallic outfits.

It is no wonder then, that Taiwanese model-actress Lin Chi-ling, dubbed the "No. 1 face of Taiwan", joined in the foray when she was in town last week.

And why not? The girlish babe, who had graced the grand opening of entertainment outlet OverTime at Dempsey Hill, looked stunning in a bronze-golden tube dress by Taiwanese design boutique Bon Chic, paired with golden pumps from Paris - an outfit she had picked herself.

The 36-year-old's party look is on trend for the festive season, be a chic Christmas Day bash, or a New Year's Eve outing.

Asked about her festive plans, Lin - who skyrocketed to stardom in 2004 after appearing in a series of advertisements across Taiwan, which included having her lean form splashed on building-sized posters, and who is the highest-paid model in Taiwan - says that she will not go wild partying this season.

On New Year's Eve, she'll be having a quiet time with family and relatives.

"My outfit will not be revealing on that day, it will be in a 'good-girl' style," said Lin, who is also an actress. She has acted in wuxia epic Red Cliff and the Indiana Jones-inspired action flick, The Treasure Hunter.

Lin says she gets inspiration for her party-ready looks from movies as well as the latest fashion on international runways.

"My style depends on my mood, sometimes I go for a sweet look or I try to be sexy, and sometimes I want to be more chic and wear pants," she said.

While the leggy lass is famed for her ethereal beauty and demure femininity, Lin says the secret to her fresh-faced, youthful look is simple.

"Take care of yourself, make sure you have a daily skincare routine, drink lots of water, and exercise," she said.

Before attending a party or a red carpet event, Lin typically works out for half an hour before enjoying a relaxing, hot bath.

my paper checks out a selection of metallic oufits, and asks Lin for her style advice as well.
