“He shouted at them not to come near and told them to mind their own business,” said Miss Zheng.
But if he was so violent towards her, why stick with him for three years?
Her reply: Because she loved him.
“Each time I asked for a break-up, he would sweet-talk me into returning to his side. But this time I’m adamant. I want nothing to do with him any more.”
They have not contacted each other since the incident.
The New Paper was unable to contact Miss Zheng’s ex-boyfriend as his mobile phone was switched off.
What were they quarrelling about on Tuesday?
She said: “He was lying to me all along. He said he would marry me but it never materialised.”
Meanwhile, pictures of the “gongfu fight” in Geylang have been uploaded on various forums, sparking a furore online.
Some netizens were sympathetic towards her.
One of them said: “This guy... (is) pathetic, striking this pose. (He) thinks he (is) Bruce Lee? For God’s sake, (she’s) just a woman!”
Others thought that her ex-boyfriend must have been really annoyed with her to treat her like that.
“This guy must be fed up with the girl’s attitude...that drove him up the wall,” said one netizen.
The case has been classified as voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which is a non-seizable offence.
For such cases, the complainant has to lodge a complaint before a magistrate, who has the powers to direct further action.
When asked if she would forgive her ex-boyfriend, Miss Zheng kept quiet.
She then said: “I don’t think I want to pursue the matter.”
