How can he call himself a man?
by Chong Shin Yen

HER pain is his shame.

That is small consolation for her public bashing in Geylang, but she is thankful that the man who hit her has been exposed for the bully that he is.

Miss Zheng Yan is the woman who was gongfu-kicked in the belly by her towering ex-lover.

A reader takes a
picture of
Miss Zheng Yan
(Lianhe Wanbao)

He is the man whose brutish behaviour was captured in pictures and splashed across newspapers.

Now Miss Zheng, 25, wants to thank the witness who took the photographs.

“The pictures showed what a bully he was and how badly he had treated me,” she said. “Even my parents had never hit me before.”

It was not the first time he had beaten her, she claimed. But the Tuesday morning incident is likely to be the last.

Miss Zheng, a Chinese national, has vowed to stop seeing him.

She didn’t expect to be publicly beaten and humiliated when she agreed to meet him on Tuesday morning.

Her hurt and embarrassment were evident when she spoke to The New Paper yesterday.

Miss Zheng, a work permit holder employed by a trading firm here, said in Mandarin: “A gentleman uses words and not force. How can he call himself a man when he beat me up like this?

“It was the first time I had been insulted and humiliated in public. Of course I feel aggrieved.”

She has the cheek to complain? She is the first person to wreck people's marriage, first person to "attack" the man by throwing the durian husk at him, and she even damaged his side mirror! What a ****! PRC woman, thought what, come here to snatch people's husband and still want to be funny?

if you throw the first punch (she threw a friggin' durian husk at him!), expect him to retaliate.

i know men as a rule are not supposed to hit women (and i'm not saying i condone his bahaviour. it's brutal and people who hit other people deserve to rot in hell with nothing to eat) but don't you think it's ridiculous how men are supposed to just take beatings/slaps.

whether of the fairer sex or not, PLEASE DO NOT RESORT TO VIOLENCE.

No wonder china an dhongkees like to say singaporean very rich and stupid. Very gullible. That's why they can come down here to cheat and extort money easily, because singaporean man too gentlemen, but stupid.

There is a chinese saying, gentlemen fears a cunning woman, a cunning woman fears a gangster, a gangster fears the policeman.

Its like that elephant, cat and rat strategy. To fall a good man, get a cunning woman, to get rid of a cunning woman get a gangster, to get rid of the gangster get a policeman, and good policeman is a gentleman which unfortunately falls prey to a cunning woman. And unfortunately, the rules and laws are very unfavourable to the policeman/gentleman who plays their role by the law. And in singapore, the man tries too much to be a gentleman only to be scrwd up by woman .....

While it's true that a respectable gentleman does not indulge in brutish behaviour, it is also true that a respectable lady does not behave like a shrew in public.

What was she thinking when she threw a durian husk at him, and damaged his car?! One can expect some form of retaliation, though his choice of action was wrong.

Miss Zheng should stop breaking up families and reflect on her own aggressive conduct. Stop acting like a victim. The only victim here is his family.

"Internetexplorer", read carefully my statements. She fooled around with someone's husband and she acted wrongly first by damaging his car. She has none of my sympathy for being a *****. However, the man should have called the police instead of hurting her as he cannot be jailed unless he has a weapon on her. Hence, her only option is to SUE him. I am not saying that he is a gentleman. A gentleman doesn't do the wrong thing, including cheating his wife or even girlfriend or bite the hands that feed him or the woman who gives birth to him. They are different issues.

Man drives fancy Merc, but cheaps on wife and kid. Then hits mistress with Kung Fu skills.

And to thiunk Kung Fu is for "self Defence". I wonder if his Sifu even knows.

I studied Kung Fu. You respect others. It's not for bullying. of course there's the bad apples.

Mistress or no mistress - REAL MEN DO NOT HIT WOMEN. (unless in self defence as in woman attacks with a weapon).

This "bravo man" is a total piece of **** and coward. He is not even a "man".

I am a man -- and I do not hit women.

So what he gets upset next time with say his mum? Hit her as well?

he's a total waste of time.

I read that she was his mistress. So, no sympathy for her. Still, he deserves to be sued by her for hurting her.
