But the US actress failed to make my MVP list when it came to her inconsistent red carpet appearances.

This year, the 35-year-old is taking it real slow when it comes to accepting projects.

As in animated-movie slow.

Chastain delivered some easy voicework in the recording studio for new supporting character Gia, the jaguar, in Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.

But perhaps less time in front of the camera gave her more time in front of the mirror - and it paid off.

The alabaster-skinned redhead never looked more like a star than when she was plugging her latest flick at the Cannes Film Festival and New York City.

1. This black and white polka dot Dolce & Gabbana puff-sleeve frock with lace trim - teamed with black Jimmy Choo platform sandals - was certainly event-appropriate for a photocall in Cannes.

It's a bit too girlish and cutesy for someone her age, but one can't deny the lush wavy hair and soft make-up are perfection.

2. Chastain was pretty as a picture in this vibrant Dolce & Gabbana multi-coloured floral sleeveless sheath for the movie's second Cannes photocall.

Blush pink platform peep-toe pumps by Rupert Sanderson completed the feminine ladies-who-lunch look.

3. She oozed old Hollywood glamour at the Cannes premiere in a regal Armani ivory strapless silk gown with beaded detailing on the bodice and sweetheart neckline.

The garment itself is far from ground-breaking, but it's still a major improvement by her standards.

4. As she's the new face of Yves Saint Laurent's new fragrance Manifesto, it's no surprise she was decked out in the label from head to toe at the New York premiere.

The vintage strapless LBD is as basic as its gets, but it's the overall styling and black and gold accessories - statement cuff, belt and ankle-strap pumps - that upped the chic factor.
