Playing dress-up
by Jennifer Dhanaraj

BEAUTIFUL, leggy professional models might have strutted down the green, elevated catwalk.

But it was the 91.3FM DJs, striking flirty poses as they sashayed along the runway, that drew the loudest cheers from the crowd at Orchard Central for The Official Fashion Season @ Orchard 2011 Launch Party on Friday night.

The models wore designs by Reckless Ericka, Blackmarket and Sabrina Goh.

The party was also a special edition of 91.3FM's monthly Must Drink Friday event.

One of the DJ's on The Married Men show, Jill Lim, 22, said this was her first time on the catwalk. "I was so nervous and completely freaking out. But thankfully, 91.3FM DJs Cheryl Miles and Madeline Tan helped to calm me down," she said.

"I was afraid I was going to fall, given the height of my heels, but I had fun in the end." After the fashion show, 35-year-old Andre Hoeden, also of The Married Men, and Tan hosted a dress-up game that involved the DJs as well as the guests, including 91.3FM listeners.

Fun

As people crammed the tight space at the Level 1 Discovery Walk, the hosts kept the crowd entertained with their banter.

That included dispensing advice on how to minimise the pain of getting a Brazilian wax. The secret? Drink wine first. (No guarantee it will work, though.)

Some regular listeners got to mingle with their favourite DJs on stage.

Events coordinator James Wan, 24, who was pushed on stage by his friends, had some fun with Lim and Miles.

The DJs dressed him and another guest, affectionately referred to as "Foreign Talent" by the DJs. Mr Wan was made to look like a bride with hairy armpits.

He said: "I had no idea what they were doing to me, but it was all in good fun."

Another listener, Ms Marcy Rubis, 27, who dressed up 91.3FM DJ Boy Thunder, created roles for the two of them.

"Boy Thunder was the patient and I was the nurse taking care of him after gender reassignment surgery," she said.

Ms Rubis and Boy Thunder drew the loudest cheers from the crowd, making them the winners of the game.

"It was well-organised and cool. And I definitely think Holland V Samantha would have approved," Hoeden said, referring to a woman who called the radio station, branding HDB heartlanders "uncultured".
