Sheila Sim, 24, model
Arguably Singapore's top model of the moment, Sim appeared on seven magazine covers this year and is the face for about five brands, including Poh Heng Jewellery, Bossini in Hong Kong and Fila in China.
She also fronted the fall/winter 2008 ad campaign of London-based, home-grown designer Ashley Isham.
She will make her movie debut in Autumn In March, where she stars as a poor little rich girl. The family saga directed by former actor Huang Yiliang is slated for release in March.
The marketing diploma student at the Marketing Institute of Singapore has been dating a 27-year-old Singaporean in the banking industry for two years.
What's your ideal present for Christmas?
A sporty-looking watch because such watches never go out of style and they are sturdy.
What was the best thing that happened to you this year?
Getting the lead role in the movie because it is a good way to expand my career. It is a golden opportunty because not every model gets to act.
I play a girl who owns a big home and, when her parents die, rents out the rooms in the hope of finding a replacement family.
What was the worst?
Having to deal with school, modelling and filming. It was hard to juggle so many things. There were days when I would get just two to three hours of sleep.
What's your wish for 2009?
That I won't be affected by the recession. I'm already starting to feel the effects as there are fewer quality jobs, such as commercial shoots, now that marketing budgets are being cut.
