Makeover magic - Jasmine Lam
by Karen Tee

Jasmine Lam, 18, student

Problem: Small eyes

My eyes are small, but appear even smaller with make-up. How can I create the double eyelid effect?

Brian Zhang Peng says: I cannot use make-up alone to give her double eyelids.
What I can do is make her eyes appear larger and less sleepy. First, I reshaped her brows to make them slightly arched for an immediate lifting effect.

For a youthful update on the smoky eye, I used a dark green colour palette.
I first applied dark green eyeshadow all over her upper lids.

Then I dabbed on a lighter, iridescent shade of green on the inner corners of the eye.  This gradation from light to dark creates the illusion of larger eyes.

Finally, using eyeliner, I extended her upper eyelid by about half a centimetre.

Make-up tip: It is a misconception that dark eyeliner will make small eyes appear even smaller. Line both your upper and lower lids with a kohl pencil, then smudge outwards and away from the eyeline to soften the look. This will make your eyes look larger and more deep-set.

Her verdict: Brian has made my eyes look larger and more defined. I look all ready for prom night.
