Shape runner gets marriage proposal
by Tong Jia Han

A pleasant surprise awaited Miss Sim Huiqing at the end of the Shape Run yesterday.

Mr Dave Yeo, 30, was waiting for his girlfriend, also 30 and who is nicknamed Pandy, at the end of her 10km race.

She was taken aback by the sight of people holding a special finishing line which read "Pandy, will you marry me?", while Mr Yeo knelt down on one knee.

The latter then popped the question with a bouquet and a ring in each hand. The ecstatic Miss Sim agreed to his proposal without hesitation.

Miss Sim was among 8,600 female racers who took part in the event organised by Shape Singapore, a publication of SPH Magazines.

Held at Nicoll Highway, the run included a new non-competitive 2.4km category. Ms Carolyn Pryor, 33, an Australian, won the 10km race category in 39 minutes and 52 seconds.

A project manager in the banking sector, she took home $1,000 in cash and $13,000 worth of products and services. This was her first Shape run.

Ms Suzanne Walsham, an Australian, finished first in the 5km race category, with a time of 17 minutes and 29 seconds. The 38-year-old accountant was also the champion of the 10km category in the 2007 and 2008 Shape Run events. This was Ms Walsham's fourth time participating in the race.
