It's another feather in her cap as Kenyan professional runner Eunice Muchiri emerged the youngest winner of the 10km category of this year’s Shape Run yesterday.

Only 18, she has taken part in 10 races in the past three months in Singapore and Malaysia, and has won all four of her races here: Aside from the Shape Run, she won the Marina 21K Women’s Open, the Great Eastern Women 10K and the Jurong Lake Run.

At the Shape Run, she outpaced some 4,000 contestants by crossing the finishing line at Nicoll Highway in 34min 18sec, more than a minute ahead of her nearest rival and fellow Kenyan, Esther Karimi, 26.

Muchiri won the $1,000 cash prize and $5,000 worth of products and services.
Even though she aimed to finish below 34 minutes, she said she is “very happy to have won” as “I came to Singapore for this race”.

Australian Suzanne Walsham, 37, was third and three-time Singapore Marathon winner Vivian Tang, 40, fourth.

Swede Jenny Lundgren, 33, won the 5km run by clocking 18min 2sec.

She won $500 in cash and $5,000 worth of other prizes.

Altogether 8,000 women took part in this year’s Shape Run, which was organised by Shape Singapore, an SPH Magazines publication.
