Love song wins fiancee's heart

JOHOR BARU, MALAYSIA: The way to a man's heart may be through his stomach but nothing captures a woman's heart like a love song. Ask Ngu Ye Zhe.

The 29-year-old project manager won his fiancee's heart with the song Now And Forever.

"I was very touched when he sang me that song, asking if I would like to be his girlfriend," said Chee Su Ying, a 28-year-old computer consultant. "It was my favourite song and he sang it well while playing the guitar."

And when Ngu proposed to her, he sang her the Mandarin song Forever Love.

Although the couple were classmates back in college, their love sparked off only two years ago.

"We were not close in college. After graduation, we went to study in England separately.

"We bumped into each other there and became friends but barely kept in contact until we returned to Malaysia.

"It was then that Ngu invited me to karaoke and we started dating," Chee said, adding that Ngu was a responsible and caring person.

Ngu said he loved Chee's personality.

"She is pretty, optimistic and cheerful. I am very happy to be with her," he said.

The happy pair were among 38 couples who tied the knot at a mass wedding held by the Johor Baru Tiong-Hua Federation at Wisma Tiong-Hua here this Christmas.

Others who took their vows were secondary school chums Ong Eng Kiat and Philip Ng Way Lip.

Eng Kiat married his sweetheart Ong Siew Ping, while Ng got hitched to Loi Nyok Lian.

"It was my idea that my best friend and I get married on the same day. I think it's fun," said Ng.
