Model in same clothes? I'll take it in my stride
by Sylvia Toh Paik Choo

IT'S the eternal scary question, isn't it?

What does a socialite do when she turns up at a designer do in the label's latest collection only to come face to face with another woman wearing the - aarrrgh tell me this nightmare's a dream - same dress?!

Almost down to the final stitch.

The most forward of fashionistas, Suzanna Kang, with a wardrobe spanning Alaia to Zegna - oh, make that Balenciaga to Yves Saint Laurent - had no such dilemma when confronted by the aforementioned situation.

The other woman was a catwalk model showcasing Gucci's spring/summer 2011 collection and a VIP client like Suzanna already had first dibs, and she wore her pick to the show to standout effect.

She said, "Of course we (am guessing ladies who luxe) try never to attend the same function in similar gowns."

That would be so, so, Michael Jackson. Man in the Mirror.

Spotted Tunku Idris and Tunku Aminah, son and daughter of the Sultan of Johor.

They cross the Causeway not infrequently and are great friends of the Italian brand.

The last time Idris, whose title is Temenggong of Johor, barrelled down in his Hummer.

This time?

"I drove my Mclaren SLR."

How many cars do you own?

"That's quite personal, isn't it? I must say I never miss the Singapore Grand Prix."

The Malaysian royal brother and sister were stylishly garbed, though not in Gucci.

"Too obvious."

Gucci presented its spring-summer 2011 riot of gorgeous colours to 600 guests who spilled into every available space in the Reflections at Keppel Bay Show Gallery, upstairs and downstairs, inside and out.

Interesting meets

Out where Keppel Bay Drive meets the sea, a whopper of a cruise ship looked positively surreal against the twinkling formation of the cable cars.

"It's an Italian cruise ship," said a pretty voice.

"You can tell by its chimneys, when they are straight and yellow with black on top."

Who are you, Gucci didn't plan this meeting surely?

Said the ship-shape Miss Sarah Fong: "My father used to work in shipping, I used to be able to tell where all the ships are from." You meet the most interesting guests at Gucci gatherings.
