Fined for exposing breasts on catwalk

A Vietnamese supermodel has been fined for flouting a decency law during a catwalk last week.

On Dec 20, Vo Hoang Yen wore a skimpy outfit which revealed much of her breasts during the “Passion and Convergence” fashion show in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese news portal Vietnamnet.vn reported.

The 24-year-old was interrogated on Monday at the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and fined 3.5 million Vietnamese dong(S$205).

The event organiser was fined 7.5 million Vietnamese dong.

The deputy director of the department, Mr Do Hoang Nam,said that several costumes presented during the event, including Ms Vo’s outfit, were not presented in the rehearsal for screening by the authorities.

“They didn’t show it to us to cheat us,” he said. Vo insisted that she initially refused to wear the outfit, but was forced to do so by the organiser.

She said:“When I was asked to wear that gown, I felt wrong and nervous. I also felt that the outfit was very revealing.

“I did not want to wear it at first, but I relented because I did not want to put the organiser in a difficult situation.”

She added: “I was warned previously about the need to maintain a certain level of decency during modelling shows, but these incidents happened unintentionally.

“I would like to apologise to everyone for my action.”

This is not the first time celebrities have flouted decency laws in Ho Chi Minh City. In May, pop singer Thu Minhwas also fined 3.5 million Vietnamese dong for wearing a skimpy outfit during a concert.
