CANTOPOP singer Kelly Chen has suffered a miscarriage five months into her pregnancy. The 38-year-old was carrying a pair of twin girls that she had conceived via artificial insemination.
In a statement on Friday, the Hong Kong starlet shared the news with her fans and said that doctors did not give a specific reason as to why the miscarriage happened. Nevertheless, Chen thanked the medical team who took care of her while she was hospitalised.
"I've just gone through the toughest week of my life," Chen wrote in Mandarin on her online blog. "Despite our best efforts, my daughters will not be able to have a life with us."
Chen has a son, Chace, 2, with her businessman husband Alex Lau.
The singer has reassured her fans that she is resting well, and thanked her well-wishers.
Chen's assistant said that she was now recovering at home, Sin Chew Daily reported.
When asked if the miscarriage was due to Chen's tight schedule, her assistant said that the singer had only attended three functions since her pregnancy was confirmed.
In an earlier blog entry dated Feb 6, Chen shared that her wishes for Chinese New Year was that her twins would be healthy.
