Canadian pop star Justin Bieber swept the American Music Awards held Sunday at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
The 18-year-old took home the night's biggest award for artist of the year, as well as favourite pop-rock male artist, and favourite pop-rock album.
He dedicated his first win of the night to his mother, Pattie Mallette, who accompanied him after his widely-publicised split from girlfriend Selena Gomez.
Nicki Minaj, 29, who performed with Bieber at the ceremony, was also a double winner, winning for best rap/hip-hop artist as well as for her album, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded".
But Minaj's red carpet look was less-than well received. According to UK's Daily Mail, Minaj and Christina Aguilera came up tops in its worst-dressed list.
Minaj wore an eye-catching neon dress paired with a teased blonde mop, while Aguilera, 31, chose a purple figure-hugging number with a thigh-high slit.
The Daily Mail added that Aguilera's too-orange tan compounded the ill-fitting look.
Conversely, music stars Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen, Carrie Underwood and Heidi Klum were winners in the sartorial stakes.
Sequins and shine seemed the order of the day, as Swift and Klum shimmered down the red carpet in gold minidresses, while Underwood looked stunning in a bright purple sequins and lace number.
