Skincare for men

In the past, you would not use "anti-ageing", "firming" or even moisturising in the same breath when you talk about a man's grooming routine.

But men - and women who want to keep their men as good and youthful looking as them - have become savvier about skincare, and there is a whole slew of products to keep them looking good.

We highlight some of those that we like.

Anti-ageing skincare

MAX LS Age-Less Face Cream
While character lines have always been sexy, it's not the same if your skin looks dull, saggy and you have open, enlarged pores. And men are as prone to that as women, especially if they are exposed to the elements daily.

For men who want to keep the wrinkles away, try the Max LS Age-Less Face Cream, a daily moisturizer. Three key ingredients, Hydrolyzed Rice Extract, Hydrolyzed Myrtus Communis Leaf Extract and Larix Sirbirica Wood Extract, help to keep skin looking younger for longer while whey protein and acetyl hexapeptide-8 smooths and firms skin.

The cream, which has a light texture, delivers a nice cool burst of hydration and is easily absorbed by skin.

Apply to a clean face and neck every morning and night. Retails for $118 (50ml) at Tangs, Takashimaya, Isetan, Metro Paragon, Robinsons Raffles City, Robinsons Centrepoint and What He Wants.

Bodycare for men

ClarinsMen

Clarins Men Ab Toning Gel Clarins Men Body Moisture Spray Clarins Men Shower Scrub

It's not just the face that needs some tender loving care, but the rest of the body can do with a little help too.

Clarins has just launched three new products that promise to do just that. Clarins Men Shower Scrub is an exfoliating gel that cleanses and tightens skin's texture. It also contains two types of microbeads and malic acid to slough off dead skin cells and cleanses pores deeply to refine the skin texture, leaving skin feeling clean without being dry.

The exfoliating scrub does not scratch at skin but does a fairly good job of cleansing that our guys' faces looked visibly more radiant immediately after.

The Ab Firming Body Toning Gel helps to contour the body and reduce the appearance of 'love handles' - that stubborn fat around the waist which sets in after too much of a sedentary lifestyle.

Caffeine encourages the release of excess fats while other ingredient such as bocoa and bison grass help to firm up the abdominal area and energizes collagen fibres to tone up skin. It has an icy feel when you first apply but does not leave behind any stickiness on the skin.

The cool feel of the gel can still be felt on the skin even after 10 minutes, which makes this toning gel a good candidate for guys who dislike smearing anything on themselves that vaguely feels like cream.

But we really like the Body Moisture Spray the best. Spray it on after a good scrub in the tub to protect your skin and keep it moisturised. The liquid that is dispensed is easy to rub into your skin and leaves behind a thin film.

It has a lightly masculine scent and skin just feels like velvet after application. We couldn't stop sneaking a feel of it on our guys. Another plus point for the guys, the bottle can be tilted upside down to spritz behind the legs too!

Inner care for men
Imedeen Man•age•ment
If you really want to get more intensive care from the inside, there is the just-launched Imedeen man•age•ment - skincare for men in a tablet. Two pills are recommended to be
consumed daily, and they work to protect the skin in the dermal layer to enhance the skin's structure.

Tablets contain an exclusive Marine Complex™ reinforced with LycoPhence GS Forte™, a mineral enriched anti-oxidant complex composed of lycopene, grapeseed extract, vitamin C and zinc. The formula shields the body's collagen and elastin proteins against oxidative damage.

Retails at all Watson's Personal Care Stores for $135.40.
