Design stars - Vicole Lang
by Rohaizatul Azhar

VICOLE LANG, 22

A fashion design graduate of Lasalle College Of The Arts, Lang’s graduation collection was inspired by Chinese mythology.

She is also one of the four graduate students, and the only Singaporean, from Lasalle chosen to show at the London’s Graduate Fashion Week in June. Excited to represent Singapore on an international platform, she hopes that one of her outfits (above) will be worn by Lady Gaga. She also designed the shoes.

Which designers inspire your aesthetic?

I am always inspired by nature and I also like to add some historical influences into the mix.

I like my collections to be modern and futuristic, but still in touch with history.

I particularly like the works of French designer Christophe Decarnin of
Balmain and Nicolas Ghesquiere.

As a young designer, what kind of help do you reckon you need?

I will need a lot of help in the technical aspects of the business such as how to
develop my collection into a marketable business venture.

What are your long-term aspirations?

I believe that I need to know the rules in order to break them. I would prefer
to learn more about the fashion industry before even thinking about starting my own brand.
