He suffers from congenital rickets, a condition that causes soft bones and leads to fractures and deformity.
She was disfigured in after being burned in an accident as a one-year-old baby, having lost all the fingers on her left hand and her nose. She also has been unable to close her eyes for the past 20 years because of her burns.
But together, 23-year-old Dong Zhijun and 21-year-old Yuan Wanyu have found love with each other despite their physical disabilities.
According to Xinhuanet, Dong, from a remote county named Tai'an in northeast China's Liaoning Province, has been dubbed "Mini Boy" or "Shorty". He reaches only 80cm in height. But as an 18-year-old teenage, he was not content to spend the rest of his life at home despite being prone to frequent fractures. He asked his mother to help him buy a second-hand computer and worked hard at picking up the finer points of building websites.
He has since founded four websites and is an operation supervisor of seven websites, and has been recruited as an IT clerk by an information services company in Anshan, the regional capital of his hometown.
Yuan found a confidant in Dong when financial difficulties at home forced her to give up dreams of attending college. Her physical disfigurement was a big barrier in her search for a job with her high-school certificate, and she encountered many rejections from companies she applied for jobs at.
But things turned a turn for the better when the pair met online on a headhunting website for the disabled in 2009. They fell in love with each other.
Dong confessed his feelings for her, saying: "I love her ffrom my heart, and I will warm her heart all my life."
His outpouring of love touched Yuan, who soon moved into his home in Liaoning.
She said: "He is a very kind man."
Dong has even brought his love to Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, to have surgery for her poor eyesight, using his savings to pay for her operations. However, the Shenyang Xiehe Cosmetic Hospital has waived the fees totalling 100,000 yuan (S$19,410) after learning about their story.
He said: "To me, she is the holiest and most gorgeous girl in the world. I will marry her after she completes all her surgical operations so that she can finally wear a beautiful wedding dress.
"No matter what happens, Wanyu and I will face up to it together."
