Colourful blazers
by Ian Lee & Karen Tee

Q A friend is hosting a party and the dress code for male guests is colourful outerwear. Where can I find men’s blazers that are not in typical shades of black, grey and navy blue?

A You are in luck – colourful blazers for men are a hot trend on the runway this season, with labels like Z Zegna, Hugo and Louis Vuitton favouring technicolour jackets in hues like cobalt, baby blue and yellow.

These colourful blazers can be paired with black or navy denim jeans and a white T-shirt for a casual look. For a dressier look, dark-coloured trousers and a white button-down shirt will do the trick.

If you are wearing a blazer in a strong colour, remember to tone down the rest of your outfit by sticking to more muted hues and staying away from prints. An overdose of colour or print will look more circus freak than coloured chic.

Consider ck Calvin Klein’s outerwear options. The label offers structured two-button blazers in intense shades of cobalt blue and fuchsia ($490 and $590) respectively.

If you have a more modest budget, local label Depression at Millenia Walk offers a more sporty take, with crop-sleeved blazers in neon pink and red plaid at $99. Uniqlo (below) offers blazers in a somewhat more subdued (but still striking) colour palette. Soft cotton two-button blazers come in sky blue and blue plaid at a pocket-friendly $49.90.
