Blazers - the quintessential dress-up item for men

There comes a time when all men will find themselves having to wear a blazer. For something a little more casual, opt for the single-breasted blazer. Colours for the top and bottom don't have to be coordinated either, which will lend the wearer a more laidback vibe. You can also pair a print, such as pinstripes on your jacket, with a solid coloured pair of bottoms.

If the occasion calls for more formality, the double-breasted blazer is it. With its wide, overlapping front flaps and two, parallel columns of buttons or snaps, this looks best on slimmer men. It also tends to make you look that much more mature.

No need to restrict yourselves to dark, sombre colours. Take your cue from Canali's Spring/Summer 2010 range - with water, green, copying blue, sand and lilac in fine blends of wool-silk and linen enriched with champagne colour. Details such as brushed metal or mother-of-pearl buttons add more visual interest.
