Choices, choices

Different types of masks suit different needs.

Sheet mask: This consists of a paper or thin cloth that is dampened with liquid. It will be soaked with nutrients and ingredients that is beneficial for the skin. It is usually cut in the shape of a mask to fit your face, leaving your mouth, eyes and nostrils open.

Cream mask: A cream mask is usually moisturising and soothing. It is a thick cream that is applied and left on the face for between 10 to 30 minues.

Peel-off mask: This is usually gel-based. The gel is applied and once it comes in contact with skin, will set to a jelly-like consistency. It is left on for the specified period of time and peeled off at the end of the duration. Peel-off masks are less messy than cream masks.

Collagen mask: Collagen is the ingredient in skin that keeps us looking youthful. It holds up the skin cells so skin looks plump and healthy.

The loss of collagen is one of the signs of ageing.

Therefore, collagen masks usually have anti-ageing purposes. Collagen masks may be in the form of cream or sheets.

Gel mask: A gel mask is similar to a peel-off mask. Liquid gel is applied to the skin and allowed to set. It could also be used with with a sheet. A sheet is applied to the face and the gel is applied onto the sheet. Upon contact, the gel will liquify and then set into a jelly-like consistency. It is either peeled off (when used with a sheet) or washed off.

This type of mask is soothing and suitable for use to calm sunburnt skin.

Mud mask: This is sometimes called a clay mask. This mask can dry up skin, so it's suitable for people with oily or combination skin. A mud or clay is put on skin and left on for a specified time. After that, it is washed off with water.

It will help to absorb excess impurities and grease that is on the skin, close up open pores, remove shininess and clear up blemishes.
