7 things in Rei Matsunuma's bag
by Hong Xin Yi

1 LIGHTER AND CAMEL FUR

These are both souvenirs from
a trip to Morocco. I made a
desert-crossing trip on a camel
and the journey was long and
tough, but fun. I took some fur
from my camel’s ear when no
one was looking because I
wanted something to
remember it by. The camel had
no reaction.

2 MATCHBOX
DESIGNED BY JAPANESE
CONTEMPORARY
ARTIST TOMOO GOKITA

This artist is very famous in
Los Angeles and New York,
and he designed a series of
matchboxes for a friend of
mine who runs an apparel
shop in Tokyo. His range is
very wide – he can do
graphic design as well as
paintings, and I really
respect that.

3 WITHIN ARM’S REACH, A BOOK
FEATURING THE WORK OF
AMSTERDAM-BORN PHOTOGRAPHER
ARI MARCOPOULOS

I bought this from a bookshop in Berlin
earlier this year. Marcopoulos is my
favourite photographer. I like his signature
street shots, which have a lot of energy.

4 GRANITE GEAR BAG

This is made of a
very light but strong
material also used
to make tents. The
American company
behind this is an
eco-friendly brand.
This bag is handy
for supermarket
runs.

5 FOUR TET CD

This is from one of the
artists signed to London’s
Domino Recording
Company. I like its records
because it has a massive
range of artists from a
wide variety of genres.

6 BAKUMAN MANGA

I started reading this series
because it is very popular in
Japan now and I wanted to
know why. I like it very much;
it is about two
young guys who want
to be anime writers.

7 PENTAX SLR
CAMERA

Friends recommended
this model and I have
had this camera for
about five years. I take
at least a thousand
shots when I go on a
trip, but usually there
are only one or two
shots I really like.
