What to see and do at the Blueprint Emporium

With over 54 exhibitors flaunting their intricately designed goods at the Blueprint Emporium, you are bound to be spoilt for choices.

Here's complete list of the exhibitors with their profiles.

SINGAPORE

Abyzz by Desmond Yang

Creative Director Desmond Yang is a wizard at seamlessly fusing edginess with classic form-fitting pieces. His superb tailoring skills make his clothes versatile and multi-functional – taking the wearer from smart-casual to club-chic.

Good workmanship and comfortable fabrics form the cornerstones of Abyzz, and Desmond is just as comfortable designing fun cocktail dresses as he is designing sleek evening dresses.

Al&Alicia

Alicia Ong was trained at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York, after which she cut her teeth with fashion brands like Marc Jacobs, DKNY, J Crew and Richard Chai. She returned to Singapore in 2008 and freelanced for established local designer Wykidd Song on various projects, including a collection for Soo Kee jewellery.

AL&ALICIA is her very own label where, together with her dedicated team, she pursues her design philosophy of bringing a little bit of New York edge to the womenswear scene in Singapore.

alldressedup

alldressedup is a contemporary, stylish and innovative fashion label with a penchant for eclectic and unique thematic design details. With the immense success of its inaugural launch collection in 2005 and the establishing of two stand-alone stores in Singapore in prestigious shopping districts, alldressedup now markets and distributes its seasonal collections internationally.

The brand currently shows at the bi-annual New York and Paris Fashion Weeks, with more than 40 internationally recognized stockists in the USA, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Northern Europe, Japan and China. It is also now stocked in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jeddah, Riyadh, Beirut and Bahrain.

Antebellum
Antebellum by Chia Wei-Choong is a take on menswear that references the past yet always moves resolutely forward. Lean silhouettes and clean lines, paired with fine tailored fabrics aim to arouse familiarity. But what seems familiar may not always be so.

Collections are inspired by every facet of life in the modern world, and ideas are translated into clothes that are beautifully wearable.

AWOL

Alfie Leong presents, AWOL, which stands for All Walks Of Life. The clothes boast unconventional construction, yet are extremely wearable and draw focus to little details that enhance the confident modern woman's wardrobe and celebrate her individuality.

Says Alfie: "I believe that creativity is not about race, age nor who and where we are born. Fashion is a language that brings all creative people together."

benWU
Bearing influence from his earlier architectural studies, benWU designs are inspired by contemporary
architectural fundamentals that delve into the re-morphing of graphical structures, layers and lines;
boldly inventing, redefining, and discovering new ways to interpret feminism, as opposed to the
rigidness of structures as one may have easily perceived.

Choo Yilin  (Singapore/Bangkok)

Choo Yilin’s iewellery aims to demonstrate that luxury and fine jewellery can coexist. She works with the hill tribe artisans of Northern Thailand, helping them to sustain a centuries-old culture which is otherwise in danger of dying out. The renewed demand for their hand-forged silver has provided the tribesmen with employment that allows them to uphold their traditions.

This approach pays homage to traditional luxury jewellery, using old artisanal methods, where almost everything was hand-forged and crafted, and took days and weeks to make, instead of minutes or hours. The label has since expanded its sustainability outreach to using eco-friendly, reclaimed precious metals, and sustainably sourced gemstones that include conflict-free diamonds. Choo Yilin’s philosophy is to applaud life in all its imperfect beauty.

For that reason, the label’s designs are always organic and asymmetrical, with a preference for included gemstones and textured metals – very different from the high-polish and symmetry that dictates high-end jewellery styles.

Daniel Yam

Daniel believes in enveloping the modern woman with soft draping, using his signature bias cut and technical know-how to best show off feminine curves.A veteran in the Singapore fashion scene, he has established a niche for his label, after five, which specialises in occasion dressing. Employing chiffons, georgettes, jersey knits and silks, Daniel is known for his easy to wear, one piece dresses. His signature tie-dye has also garnered him rave reviews from both local and international media.

Daniel Yam has shown at Australian Fashion Week, China Fashion Week, Hong Kong Fashion Week, as well as in Thailand, Indonesia and Dubai. Apart from four standalone boutiques and corners in the Singapore department stores, Tangs and Takashimaya, the Daniel Yam label can also be found regionally as well as in the United Kingdom and the United States.

For BLUEPRINT 2010, Daniel will employ his signature tie-dye, but this time, influenced by Modern Art. The collection will also juxtapose volume with body-conscious shapes and marry the structured with fluidity. The overall feel will be sexy, modern and urban yet retaining a feminine approach.

iamwhoiam | Singapore

Tan Qiu Wen’s creations reflect a critical analysis of modern man’s tragic life, underscored by a sense of humour. The label’s designs incorporate codes of haphazardness, randomness and individualized detailing, truly living up to its unique name.

I.E. | Singapore

Founded in 2000 by Keith Yap, Individual Expression's first collection was inspired by a trip to Bali, and the desire to offer hip, trendy interpretations of traditional Batik. Since then, the brand has kept its individualist spirit alive, revitalizing traditional techniques with a modern approach.

Today, I.E. is available in Singapore, Thailand and Japan, with designs exported to France, Spain and Turkey under private labeling. Set in an imaginary Utopia, I.E. takes the best of traditional materials and vintage chic to create a style that embraces the world’s cultures, evoking an old-world romanticism with a gypsy soul.

Bold prints and vibrant colour palettes are IE’s signature. Details include patchwork, hand stitching, unexpected fabric blocking, lace trims and embroidery. Bound to nature and, dedicated to social responsibility, I.E. strives to balance the minimal with decoration, tradition with contemporary sensibility. I.E. is currently stocked at United Arrows in Tokyo.
