What to see and do at Blueprint Emporium 2010 Part 4

LONDON

Eugene Lin

Singapore-born London based designer Eugene Lin graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design with a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design Womenswear and a distinction from the Post-Graduate Pattern Cutting course. While in college, he honed his pattern cutting skills at Preen and Vivienne Westwood and, upon graduation, worked for other successful UK-based designers like Roksanda Ilincic
and Ashley Isham.

Eugene set up his eponymous label in 2009, launching his debut womenswear collection, Harmatia for Spring/Summer 2010. With a strong focus on creative cutting and a sharp eye for detail, his clothes express the brand’s aesthetic of sophistication through intelligent design and creative craftsmanship. Comfort and luxury are synonymous with the label, with each garment meticulously executed to create interesting, truly unique pieces that defy seasonal fads. Sensuous yet subtle, each piece is uniquely understated and of exceptional quality.

J. JS Lee

J. JS Lee is by Jackie JS Lee, who has just finished her MA course at Central Saint Martins, and has now launched her eponymous label in March 2010. Having won the Harrods Design award, J. JS Lee will now be stocked in Harrods and, concept shops in Germany and Poland from July.

J. Maskrey

J. Maskrey started her career as a make-up artist but soon broke away from traditional methods by using crystals to make stick- on motifs and thus developed the original 'Skin Jewellery'. Clients for this unique and dazzling form of body art have included Ungaro Couture, Alexander McQueen, Kenzo, Sonia Rykiel, and Hugo Boss. In the year 2000 J. branched into clothing, initially as a backdrop to her 'Skin Jewellery' business.

She debuted at London Fashion Week in 2001 and her clothing line came into focus with the fashion press. J. moved to Paris in 2006 and has been concentrating on her ready- to- wear lines ever since, producing seasonal men's and women's collections using luxurious materials such as cashmere and silk, with the continual sheen of crystal embellishment on top.

Joanna Sykes

Joanna Sykes’ eponymous label comprises beautiful basics and luxury essentials, and Vogue Italia has hailed her for her “versatile, elegant, simple, sophisticated clothes”. Now, two years into launching her eponymous label, Joanna Sykes has won NewGen sponsorship from the British Fashion Council, and has been appointed designer for UK boutique Matches’ Freda collection – and it sounds like this is only the shape of things to come.

KTZ

KTZ is a hot upcoming label worn by leading trendsetters like Lady Gaga, Bjork and Katy Perry. Its capsule Spring/Summer 2009 collection, displayed in TOPSHOP's window, was an immediate and resounding success. KTZ’s second boutique is in the upmarket and trendy area of Notting Hill Gate and its third store is in Paris.

Krystal

Krystal was founded by Kish Vasa, who designs these translucent, intoxicatingly-coloured crystal items. Huge dangle chandelier clip-on earrings, crystal shower necklaces and leather belts with supersize buckles are just some items from its collection, which have been huge hits in the British, European and Saudi Arabian markets.

Ozakii

Exotic leather cuffs and handbags influence Ozakii’s zipped look, where edges are trimmed with jagged teeth of zips to add an element of danger to glamour. An RCA fashion graduate, this undiscovered London talent has branched into accessories influenced by her ready-to-wear pattern skills, turning her designs into layered skirt bags for the evening.

Paparazzi

Inspired by a 1920s vintage clutch, Zoe Halform transformed the little bag into a contemporary musthave clutch among fashionistas around the world. Tucked snugly under the arm, it looks like a folded magazine.

RJS by Richard Sorger

Richard Sorger’s new line, RJS by Richard Sorger, maintains the same spirit of beautiful handembellishment as his main line, but is aimed at younger fashion-forward women at more affordable price-points. The collection of thirty-two pieces is already selling well and will reach shops in January 2010. The easy to wear clothes have clean lines, bold graphics and reprise such decorative motifs as the highly successful skeletons and scrollwork from previous seasons.

Swear

Synonymous with the pointed casual hybrid shoe, Swear leads the contemporary fashion footwear market by continually playing with silhouettes and updating shoe traditions to compliment ever changing trends and fashion opinions. Swear constantly twists the footwear zeitgeist with its own idiosyncratic handwriting.

Swear intends to broaden its horizons by diversifying its product offering to introduce a different calibre of shoe, by using a more satirical approach to footwear design and boasting a more comprehensive range of new and exciting footwear for men and women.
