Dayglow Vintage
What is it? A local fashion start-up that sells modern day dresses with a touch of retro. Easy-to-wear day dresses are the mainstays here. Caters to fashionistas who are looking for a touch of special, since dresses are created in limited pieces with indie influences to satisfy the growing demand for exclusivity. If you are a plus-sized girl, you can request for pieces to be made in your size, albeit with an additional cost.
Who is behind it? The brains behind the label is Lilian Choo, who previously worked in an advertising agency.
With an especial fondness for retro fabric, prints and fashion and in love with the idea of wearing something that no one else has, she used to head to a seamstress armed with designs of clothes that she drew. Three years ago, she signed herself up for a dressmaking course as she loves crafting.
Lilian says: "Now armed with the knowledge of dressmaking and pattern drafting, I decided its time I share my creations with like-minded people; those who appreciate indie/cult labels and of course vintage and retro fashion pieces. I draw inspirations from old pattern books I acquired from flea markets, my parents and ebay! as well as vintage fashion magazines."
Why the hype? You can look forward to at least four to six new designs every month, depending on how quickly Lilian's designs sell out.
Cute designs such as the dress inspired by a bib, or the rat pack dress with a peter pan collar make her dresses a quirky addition to anybody's wardrobe. Lilian also says a good 80 per cent of her fabrics are unused vintage materials, sourced from Japan, Malaysia, Korea and occasionally in USA and Europe during her travels.
