Are there recycling points for used make-up containers?
by Hong Xinyi

Q: Are there recycling points for used make-up containers?

A: There are some beauty brands that recycle used make-up containers.

M.A.C, for example, has a Back To M.A.C initiative where you get a free lipstick of your choice (except those from Limited Edition Collections or the Viva Glam Series) if you return six containers that used to hold M.A.C products. These are then sent to the appropriate waste management centres.

Kiehl's also has recycling bins at all its stores and encourages consumers to return their empty Kiehl's containers.

To celebrate Earth Month in April, Origins will launch a Return To Origins recycling programme. Every Origins counter will have a recycling receptacle for cosmetic and toiletries bottles, tubes, caps, jars and compacts of any brand that consumers can drop off.

Customers who do so will receive a 7ml sample of an Origins product of their choice. This starts only in April, so don't start carting your containers to Origins counters just yet.

You can also dispose of your containers at the recycling bins stationed all over Singapore. To find out where the nearest bin is, check out this handy map at www.nea.gov.sg/cms/rcd/locations/map.html.
