Mum stayed for my sake

I knew Mum stayed for my sake, so my dad would pay for my education. How belittling it was to realise that my mother didn’t think dad’s love for me was enough for him to continue being my father and to provide for me if they were no longer married.

I know my father pays for the woman’s sons’ education. I know it’s not because I am a girl and they are boys, because my father is not that kind of man. He is a good man, and also a monster for hurting my mother and me that way.

Now that I am an adult, we keep up the facade of a happy family. We go on holidays together. My parents do have a somewhat happy marriage, if you don’t take into account the little side dish and her sons.
