Cherie Chung said to be marrying S'porean businessman

Retired Hong Kong film actress, Cherie Chung, 49, is rumoured to be with a 50-year-old Singaporean property developer, only known as Mr L. They have been together for 6 months now.

An insider told Shin Min daily that after dating for 6 months, Mr L could not wait to propose to her. Declining his proposals not once but twice, Cherie Chung felt that she needed more time and mutual understanding before she accepts his proposal, which she hints could be probably sometime next year.

According to reports, Mr L was an avid fan of Cherie Chung and had even watched her movie, titled "An Autumn's Tale", for more than 10 times.

Upon receiving wind that she was coming to Singapore in early January, Mr L tried all means to "pull strings" to get to know her. Also, he portrayed himself as a "kind-hearted soul" and offered to salvage the dilapalated resort she was supposed to improve with her deceased husband.

Her late husband, Mike Chu, passed away 2 years ago from stomach cancer. Ever since, she was in post depression mode, pining for her lost love. In August 2008, she was not able to manage the grief and started to binge eating. Once, a reporter caught her gorging three slices of cheesecakes in one seating at a cafe. Chung has since ballooned in size.

With the appearance of Mr L, her friends noted that her gloomy days are over. She has a smile across her face more regularly. However, being in love did not make her conscious of her weight and reporters claimed that she seemed at least 60kg.

Aside to that, fortune tellers predicted that Cherie Chung will be married next year.

One fortune teller said: "Cherie Chung is an ill-fated beauty. Thankfully in 2010 and 2011, her love life will be turn around as her luck with the opposite sex is flourishing."

Two other fortune tellers were quick to agree unanimously. It is crucial that she differentiates the rotten apples in the crate, said one fortune teller.

Whether the fortune tellers are accurate or not, we can only wait till next year and to see whether luck stays on Chung's side.
