Ris unedited on RazorTV
by Dawn Tay

ON TUESDAY, former beauty queen Ris Low spent five hours attending a probation review at a district court, attended school and ended her day on RazorTV's couch, where she gave the online video news channel a no-holds-barred interview.

The former Miss Singapore World fielded questions ranging from why she committed credit card fraud to how she felt about her stricter probation terms - she can no longer shop alone - that had been imposed on her on Tuesday.

In her candid replies, the 19-year-old revealed nuggets of information about herself.

For example, she is dating a man who is five years her senior.

Her bipolar disorder - a condition that results in mood swings - also affects her relationship with men and contributed to her past habit of heavy drinking, she said.

Here are some excerpts from the hour-long interview.

On her credit-card fraud:

Actually it was quite fun, because you spend the money and there's no limit and it's not yours, you don't have to work...

After that, I realised it's wrong to steal actually. This is people's hard-earned money and I shouldn't be doing it at all.

On her bipolar disorder:

I'm taking medication and seeing a psychiatrist on a fortnightly basis. I get low very often and when I get really happy, I'll get really crazy. I don't think many guys can take that kind of mood swings.

On her new-found fame and being a target of criticism:

I guess everybody wants to be famous, everybody wants to be in the limelight. Only for what kind of reasons.

I've been good, been lifting my head high and taking everything with a pinch of salt. I don't let it take any effect on me...

On her relationship with pageant organiser ERM World Marketing:

Actually I'm quite okay with them. I guess all the queens are, the top five of us, because occasionally we'll just pop by for dinner or chit-chat because we have to organise some things within ourselves...

She's (ERM event director Tracy Lee) very nice, she teaches me how to go, where to go, how to start, and where to move on from where you start.

On "tomboy" first runner-up Claire Lee, whom Ris accused of leaking news about her credit-card fraud to the media:

Beauty and poise, she doesn't have any of it... she has not enough stage experience.

On whether she regrets her first RazorTV interview, which ignited a controversy on the standard of her spoken English:

No, because... it gives me the courage to speak in front of the camera... the first time I'm doing it.
