Is it true that it is not good for your skin to change beauty products often?
by Hong Xinyi

Q: My skin started to break out after I experimented with new skincare and cosmetic products. Is it true that it is not good for your skin to change beauty products often?

A: I asked Sophie Majou, international trainer for French skincare brand Guinot, about your problem. She says your breakouts could be related to using products inappropriate for your skin but it could just as likely be a reaction to factors such as pollution and stress.

'It is true that changing skincare products too often is not recommended, especially for sensitive skin,' Majou adds.

'I recommend that you follow the prescription of professional beauticians who are able to provide customised advice.'

Consider consulting a dermatologist, who will determine if any specific ingredients triggered your breakouts.

For now, focus on soothing and repairing your skin.

Drink lots of water and get enough rest.

Remember to apply sunblock so breakouts will be less likely to leave dark scars when they heal. Steer clear of products with potentially harmful irritants such as those with a high alcohol content.

You may want to go for a treatment that uses Guinot's Gel Peaux Sensibles, a desensitising gel. For salons where this is available, check out www.guinot.com.sg.

Another option is American organic skincare brand Derma e's Very Clear range of products (Picture 2), for blemish-prone skin. Prices range from $29.90 for a cleanser to $39 for a moisturiser and they are available at selected Watsons stores.
