Before you click on Send or Upload in Facebook, remember that the seemingly innocent photo or greeting you are about to put on your profile could stir up problems.

Snoops, stalkers and even potential employers abound on the social networking platform - United States President Barack Obama warned of 'stupid posts' just last week - so make sure you have adjusted your settings to give you maximum privacy.

If you have not, here is how:

  • When you click on Settings on the top bar in Facebook, you will see a list of things you can change. Under Privacy, click on Manage
  • You can then adjust your profile settings and choose who you wish to allow to view your personal information such as your contact details or photos tagged of you. It can be everyone, those in your network and your friends, your friends and their friends, or just your friends only. If you wish to, you can even opt to block some people from viewing your profile.
  • Under Search, you can select who can find you through Facebook and which parts of your profile they can see.
  • Under NewsFeed and Wall, you can choose whether your friends will be notified when you do something such as post a message on someone else's wall or change your relationship status.
