THERE has been much buzz in the press about divorce and alimony.
It seems the focus is on men’s entitlement to alimony.
In recent years, women have been demanding for equality.
Having said that, they also seek to be treated with respect.
Wouldn’t it be unequal to expect the responsibility of making alimony payments to lie on divorced men?
If society is to be truly equal, the authorities should look into abolishing alimony.
It is being unfairly imposed on divorced men.
It would also be unfair to impose it on women.
To have an equal divorce, nobody should be made to pay anything, except in cases where the couple have children.
In such cases, the couple could be asked to declare how much each party should contribute to the children’s upkeep and education. - Mr Raymund Koh Joo Guan
