Splurge or save
by Gladys Chung

Foam cleansers save you time. Just press the pump and you get an instant lather. Foam distributes the facial wash liquid evenly over the skin and cleanses it thoroughly.

Foam cleansers work best with facial cleansing gadgets as the rich lather prevents the rotating or oscillating brush heads from tugging on the skin.

SPLURGE

1 Ettusais Foamy Rich Mousse ($32 for 180g)

Non-comedogenic, fragrance-free and colorant-free, this cleanser contains amino acid cleansing agents which are said to clean thoroughly and gently. It promises to remove make-up and, at the same time, infuse skin with hyaluronic acid, glycerin and collagen. Review: The foam is creamy and dense, and has a fresh citrus scent. It does not slide off my face easily, so I can clean my skin more thoroughly with just two pumps. It gets rid of my base make-up completely and most of my waterproof eyeliner. My skin also feels plump and hydrated afterwards.

SAVE

2 Nivea Aqua Effect Refreshing Cleansing Mousse ($14.50 for 150ml)

Made with Vitamin E and a hydrating ingredient called Hydra IQ, it claims to deep cleanse the skin. Review: I need four pumps of the airy foam for my entire face. The foam - which has the signature powdery Nivea scent - also tends to slide off, so the lather becomes thinner. My skin does not feel tight after cleansing, a sign that the formula does not strip my skin of its natural moisturising factors. The foam gets rid of most of my foundation.

3 Biore Marshmallow Whip Facial Wash ($13.90 for 150ml)

This comes with a formula with fine foam that promises to cleanse more effectively and contains hydrating ingredients. Made for normal and combination skin, it is also available in the Extra Moist version for dry skin and the Acne Care variation for acne-prone skin. Review: The relatively dense and creamy cleansing mousse does not slide off the skin easily and has a light floral scent. With three pumps, the rich lather gets rid of most of my foundation and waterproof eyeliner. My skin feels hydrated afterwards.

4 Senka Speedy Perfect Whip ($13.90 for 150ml), available from next month

This, too, aims to remove oil and dirt from the skin without stripping it of essential moisture Review: Three pumps are enough for my entire face. However, the foam dissipates quickly, leaving behind a thin, soapy solution that removes most of my foundation and waterproof liner. It has a refreshing floral scent.
