Posh talks fashion with Chinese students

Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham shared her experiences in fashion design with young students in the industry during her visit to the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology on Monday.

The seminar was hosted by Vogue China's editorial director, Ms Angelica Cheung, who started the event by asking Beckham whether she feels confident as a designer without professional training.

Beckham said: "I wear (what I design) a lot. I am very focused and passionate, and I work really hard."

The 39-year-old fashion icon also said her husband, retired football star David Beckham, 38, supports her work wholeheartedly.

"We have been together for 16 years and married for 14 years… It's a long time. He is kind and generous. He is not perfect, but wonderful. He always supports me in fulfilling my dreams."

This was her second visit to Beijing. She is collaborating with some local brands, meeting clients and finding new opportunities in the city.

Although the fashion world looks glamorous, she said that there are huge challenges and difficulties.

According to her, it is not just about fashion design, but also about running a business.

"I am not working for a brand called Victoria Beckham. I own the brand. It is my business, and I need to consider every part of the business," she said.

Last year, she introduced her collection of slim silhouettes to Beijing fashionistas, including razor- sharp dresses and corsets, jackets with functional pockets and zipper details, and sporty short skirts.

The designer said she wants to grow her brand, with more lines such as shoes, cosmetics and perfume.

But she will not do that until she finds the right experts in each area.

"I don't want to run before I can walk and, now, I am only baby- walking," she said.

She said she hopes to open boutiques in Beijing as soon as possible.
