Dating for a month, but married by 12-12-12

KOTA KINABALU: Some Malaysians did not want to pass up on the chance to do something memorable and they celebrated 12.12.12 by getting hitched.

Businessman David Chew, 30, and accountant Jacqueline Liew, 24, have only known each other for a month but decided to get married on 12.12.12.

"Our parents are long-time friends and got us together on a blind date," Chew said.

"Jacqueline and I clicked instantly and fell in love at first sight, so we decided to get married today (yesterday), as this is a day which comes once in a century," he said at the Kota Kinabalu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) in town.

In PUTRAJAYA, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, who attended the National Registration Department's (NRD) 12.12.12 "Celebrate Love" mass wedding ceremony earlier, said 834 couples tied the knot at NRD offices nationwide, including 114 couples in Putrajaya alone.

In KLANG, technician Teoh Ban Leong, 32, said he chose 12.12.12. so that it would be easy for him to remember his wedding day.

He met Ter Soo Fang, 22, a year ago and proposed to her earlier this year.

They were part of 230 couples who tied the knot at the Klang Hokkien Association hall yesterday.
