IT'S not being on the red carpet that's got Giuliana Rancic smiling from ear to ear, it's motherhood.

Said the first-time mum: "What's just so incredible is that this year has been truly the hardest year of my life, but it's been the greatest year of my life.

"Being in the delivery room, seeing the baby for the first time, there were just tears of joy," she said.

The 38-year-old E! News anchor has had a tumultuous year, having endured fertility troubles, miscarriage and a double mastectomy for breast cancer.

Edward Duke, her newborn with husband Bill Rancic, was born through a surrogate mother on Aug 29.
