When life throws you lemons, make a splash.

Spider-man co-stars Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield found themselves in a bit of a pickle recently when they realised that paparazzi were lying in wait for them outside a New York City restaurant.

The 23-year-old US actress and her British boyfriend, 29, turned the unpleasant affair into an awareness campaign for two charities.

They walked out holding up pieces of cardboard that read: "We just found out that there were paparazzi outside the restaurant we were eating in.

"So… why not take this opportunity to bring attention to organisations that need and deserve it: www.wwo.org (Worldwide Orphans Foundation) and gildasclubnyc.org. Have a good day!"
