She's engaged & due to marry next week
by Zaihan Mohamed Yusof

HER identity may have been confirmed.

But fans of Farahrizan Abdul Razak are still shocked and finding it hard to believe that their favourite television newscaster was nabbed at a recent drug party in Kuala Lumpur.

The pretty celebrity is a newscaster for Astro Awani, a 24-hour news channel.

The Malaysian police confirmed her identity as one of the 27 who were arrested at the party on New Year's Eve, along with a part-time actress.

Farahrizan, 22, who was caught in the police raid on a hotel room, had allegedly tested positive for drug use.

She is engaged and is due to be married next week, according to The Star.

The news has made some Malaysian netizens react with disgust, while others, obviously her fans, called for more restraint.

Speculation had been rife over the identities of the celebrities involved when the news first made headlines in Malaysia.

Some netizens even set up a site on 2 Jan to ask others to guess the identity of the celebrity who was arrested.

Of the 40 responses on the site, most got the answer right, even before police confirmed that Farahrizan was the one arrested.

Said blogger Cikgu: 'Now people are anxious to know who are the two celebrities who attended the sex party. Sooner or later, their identities will be exposed even though not at their consent (sic).'

With Farahrizan's name out in the open, some have taken potshots at her. Some said she had tarnished her image and celebrity status by being involved in such a scandal.

One anonymous comment labelled Farahrizan the 'Tak glamour news presenter', while another said 'if she is positive for drugs, she is useless.'

This and That wrote: 'I read the news that days before the new year, there would be some kinda G-string/no underwear sex party somewhere in Johor but it turned out that parties like this was thrown everywhere!

'Our dearest Astro Awani Farahrizan Abdul Razak was caught in one of those sex parties in KL... She was tested positive for drug...sick!'

Another comment, posted by Danimulia, said this scandal should be an 'example for her to learn and return to the right path and remember god.'

RockyBru wrote: 'Quite weird these days a lot of hot stories appear in the media like it was some kind of Hollywood gossip.'

Police said the suspects are expected to be slapped with drug charges soon.

City police narcotics department chief Assistant Commissioner Kang Chez Chiang, said two women, along with seven revellers, tested positive for ecstasy and ketamine.

He said: 'All the suspects have been remanded until Sunday. We are trying to find out who supplied the drugs.'

According to the New Straits Times, the revellers between the ages of 18 and 31, were ambushed at a serviced apartment in Jalan P Ramlee around 3.30am.

The police found liquor and drugs like ketamine, ecstasy and syabu in the 11th-floor unit. They also found unused condoms.

Farahrizan was still an employee of the news network, said Astro Awani general manager Rozina Aziz. 'We will wait for the outcome of the police investigations. In the meantime, we will give our full cooperation to the police,' she said.

The police will not be pursuing sex charges against the suspects as investigations showed that no sex party had taken place, though condoms were reportedly strewn on the floor.

City Criminal Investigations Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner II Ku Chin Wah said it was a narcotics investigation.

Those who attended the party allegedly knew each other through Friendster, a social networking site on the Internet.

Some were college students.
