A couple from Iowa, USA, married for 72 years died holding hands last Wednesday after a car accident.
Gordon Yeager, 94, and wife Norma, 90, died within an hour of each other, reported Iowa news channel, KCCI.
Gordon had stopped breathing first, but Norma's heartbeat kept his heart monitor going as the couple lay in hospital before she also passed on an hour later.
The couple was laid to rest holding hands in the same casket, and their family members will mix their ashes together after they are cremated.
Gordon, who is remembered as a sociable and fun-loving man, married Norma in 1939, the same day he graduated from high school. Norma was the quieter and more organised one who was often "considered a perfectionist".
They are survived by their two children, Donna and Dennis, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Donna and Dennis said that their parents "rarely spent any time apart" and "were committed to each other for life".
