Woman of the year built Marina Bay

THE next time you stop to admire the distinctive skyline of Marina Bay, know that it would not have been possible without the contribution of Her World Woman of the Year 2010 winner, Dr Cheong Koon Hean.

The current Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Development Board, Dr Cheong served as the CEO of the Urban Redevelopment Authority for six years. Her tenure saw her spearhead Marina Bay's transformation into the version we see today.

An award given out since 1991, Her World Woman of the Year honours women who have made significant contributions to society or their profession, be it in the arts, business, politics, community service or sports.

The award also includes the Young Woman Achiever award and Woman of the Year Special Award, given respectively to Dr Marissa Teo for cancer research, and Dr Oon Chiew Seng, a fiesty 94-year-old who runs her own home for elderly patients suffering from dementia.
