'I love wearing my wedding gown'

Surprise
Said Tay: “I loved wearing the wedding gown and that’s why I refused to change into an evening dress. A woman gets only one chance to wear her bridal gown, so why would anyone wear it for less than an hour?

“Wear it for as long as you can, I say, because you will never have another chance to wear it again!”

Tay didn’t even know what her hairstyle was going to be until celebrity hairstylist David Gan arrived at her hotel room just two hours before the dinner started. Gan had been stressed out since Friday because he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to make it in time to do Tay’s hair.

When The New Paper called him at noon on Sunday, he was about to board his flight for Singapore at an Indonesian airport.

He had a prior engagement and had just done the hair of another bride (a tycoon’s daughter).

Gan, 49, told The New Paper: “I had my manager, Ben, on stand-by. He would have done Jacelyn’s hair in my place if I hadn’t made it in time. “The amazing thing is that  Jacelyn is so trusting, she left her hairstyle entirely up to me. When I asked her on the spot if shehad any preferences, she still said no.”

In the end, Gan chose to do what he called an “American effortless look” – a chignon that had a lot of volume, texture and movement.

He said he didn’t go with a tight bun as that would have been too “severe” for Tay’s sharp features – to which Tay’s response was “leave it to the expert”.

Gan also presented his wedding gift to Tay, a brown diamond bracelet. He declined to reveal its price, except that it wasa five-figure sum.

Tay’s make-up was done by celebrity make-up artist Andy Lee.

The theme for the night was “blue chic”.

Apart from the wavy blue carpet in the ballroom, there were also blue hydrangeas, light blue seat ribbons and flowing candle-lit crystal stands. So where will the happy couple  be heading for their honeymoon?

“It’s still in the works,” said Tay. “For now, (we want to) sleep first!”
