She's turning Japanese
by Jeanmarie Tan

The first time in her 20-year acting career, that the Hollywood superstar found herself experiencing a fashion rebirth of sorts.

Believe it or not, 42-year-old Roberts is a far bigger fan of wearing black on the red carpet than Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie combined.

But on her maiden trip to Tokyo as part of Eat Pray Love's round-the-world tour, the mum of three and Lancome ambassador shocked style watchers with colour, print and flowing fabric.

Regrettably, her momentous evolution was short-lived.

Check out this space next week for evidence of the Pretty Woman's not-so-pretty, back-to-black rut.

For now, enjoy the colour while it lasts.

1) The unflattering fit of Roberts' multi-coloured Dries Van Noten long-sleeved belted silk dress at the press conference leaves much to be desired.

It appeared too tight here and too baggy there, and made her look way bigger and boxier than she is. The wrinkled skirt could also have benefited from a quick steam.

Still, the floral print's gorgeous and those green suede ankle-strap wedges from Celine are adorable.

I'm just grateful nothing's black.

2) Roberts looked like she was turning Japanese - or at least trying to.

She added exotic flair to the premiere in a sheer, loose-fitting gold striped kimono-inspired gown.

Jimmy Choo Clue leopard print heels, gold jewellery from Van Cleef & Arpels and a slicked-back ballerina bun were the perfect finishing touches.

It's a glamorous, regal silhouette that we've never seen on her before and truly fitting for the Hollywood queen that she is.
