"Singapore has placed greater stress, especially on mothers," said one woman, while another adds that women today "are a cursed lot, compared to earlier generations, because the roles are so diversified."
The difficulties and stresses of raising a family in Singapore were key issues discussed at a dialogue session, organised by the People's Association's Women's Integration Network on Tuesday.
At the two-hour session, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Teo Chee Hean met more than 80 women from various women's organisations to discuss the pressing issues facing Singapore women.
Some of the questions raised include the challenges for women to return to work after childbirth, and the need for more flexible working arrangements.
