Local model is SK-II's first Singapore ambassador
by Charlene Chua

Another local model doing Singapore proud is Sheila Sim.

She has just been chosen as skincare brand SK-II's first Singapore ambassador.

This accolade comes at a time when Sim is at the peak of her 12-year career.

And the Curtin University student is confident that she can hold her own alongside SK-II's international ambassadors, Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett, Malaysian actress-singer Angelica Lee, Chinese actress Tang Wei and Hong Kong model Qiqi.

Sim, 28, told The New Paper: "Qiqi, Angelica and Tang Wei are established personalities with years of experience in the entertainment industry.

"With my transformation from girl-next-door to international supermodel, I believe that this (like them) best reflects the essence of the brand's philosophy."

Sim was talent-scouted at her aunt's wedding when she was 16. In 2002, she moved to Hong Kong, where she spent four years building up her portfolio.

The 1.74m-tall model has since worked for fashion houses such as Giorgio Armani, Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Dior, Piaget, Valentino, Louis Vuitton and Chanel.

Apart from working the runways in Tokyo, Milan and Paris, her claim to local fame came in the form of her 2008 Poh Heng Jewellery campaign.

In the same year, she appeared in 10 of the 24 shows at the Singapore Fashion Festival.

Said Ms Suzanne Sim, SK-II Asean brand manager: "Sheila was picked as the first SK-II global ambassador from Singapore because she embodies a modern interpretation of beauty that's very au courant yet authentic.

"Having vast experience in the modelling and fashion industry under her belt at such a young age proves her devotion and passion in life and work.

"We want this to be an inspiration to young women out there."

Sim said that the secret to her lovely fair skin is getting enough rest, constant moisturising and drinking water to make sure she stays hydrated.

The aspiring designer is also working on her own online fashion portal, Sceneplicity.

On being Singapore's top model of the moment, Sim said: "I'm honoured to receive this accolade and will continue to raise the bar for fashion both in Singapore and around the world."
