Miss Universe changes rules to include transgender women

The Miss Universe pageant is changing its rules and will allow transgender women to take part in all of its competitions starting in 2013, the organization and gay rights group GLAAD said on Tuesday.

Tuesday's decision follows a media outcry over the disqualification of Canadian contestant Jenna Talackova from the upcoming Miss Universe Canada contest because she was not a"naturally born female."

Talackova 23, who underwent gender reassignment surgery when she was 19, was reinstated to the Canadian competition last week by businessman Donald Trump, who owns the Miss Universe organization. Talackova has a Canadian passport, driver's license and other documents that identify her as a woman.

Following consultations with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), Miss Universe "discussed a policy change that includes transgender women in time for the start of this fall's 2013 pageant season; a time when most of the competitions around the world begin to take place," the two groups said in a joint statement.

The change brings Miss Universe into line with other groups that have taken a stand against discrimination of transgender women, including the Olympics, the Girl Scouts of America and TV show "America's Next Top Model", GLAAD said.

"We have a long history of supporting equality for all women and this was something we took very seriously," said Paula Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization.

The exact language, which will abolish the long-standing rule that contestants must be "naturally born females," is still being worked out, officials said.

National beauty pageants are currently being held around the world to chose contestants to compete in the 2012 Miss Universe contest, to be held later this year.

Excuse me... my bluntness... so are u saying if a person who has a "vagina" is a man ? And likewise a person who has a "penis" is a woman ?

Which is which ?

To me, a man has a PENIS, and a woman has a VAGINA. A man does not have a VAGINA and a woman does not have a PENIS.

A man who has a PENIS can be "feminine" in his ways... eg, people who are in the creative arts, music, fashion designer...etc. But that does not mean he has a VAGINA. Get it ?

A woman who has a VAGINA can be "masculine" in her ways... eg, a Politican eg. Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir...

Are we talking about "GENDER" here or "Capabilities & .....

I totally agree. I came to a similar conclusion myself one day while driving on the expressway!. I was wandering why the car in front of me was traveling so slowly on the fast lane? I then over took it on it's left and had a quick glance at what the driver was up to!
I totally admire the driver's ability in driving while holding and talking on a mobile phone with one of her hands, whilst holding a partly eaten apple on the other and steering the car with her elbow on the steering wheel....wish I can do that :o))

I think he can take part if he bear ALL the features or characteristics of a woman. Not 99% not 99.5% not 99.9%.

For example woman is a multitask orientated creature while man is a single task creature.

Those 60's 70's 80's TV shows featuring a woman ironing and watch TV or talking over phone all at the same time is not a coincidence. Man can do ...... but need tremendous amount of focus power.

Is this fair enough for him ??

You are born as a human being......in either "one" of these 2 genders.

1) A male

or

2) A female

This has been the "NATURAL" pattern since the Human Race began....

Anything in btw,... she male, he female.... is perversion & that person needs help... spiritually, emotionally, physically, and psychologically !

I don't care what you lesbians, gays & bi's or what have you would say. U weren't born with a gay gene. And u certainly were'nt born out of the male's anatomy (if u get my meaning).

If so, prove it...

Are both of your parents

a) 2 Females ?

b) 2 Males ?

or

c) 1 Male & 1 .....

Yes... she should NOT be allowed to join MISS UNIVERSE.:) Plain & simple logic....

It's ((((NOT)))) DISCRIMINATION.:)

Why should it be ? The contest clearly says "MISS" Universe. Since he is not a "she" in the natural sense of it, then he/she should not be allowed to join the contest.

But if there is a MISS TRANSGENDER UNIVERSE contest... by all means, she can go join that.

Just imagine if there is such a "Miss Transgender" Universe contest and a 100% female joins such a contest, would she be discriminated from joining it since she is "NOT" a transgender to begin with ?

(Just a tot for reflection)
