Catwalking her way to victory

Winning The New Paper New Face 2011 (TNP New Face) may have been a challenge, but 19-year-old Jamie Lim stood up to it and started to practise different styles of catwalk while walking home from the bus stop.

One may question whether the mere three-day catwalk practice is sufficient.

Well, the answer is obvious - yes.

The first year business student emerged victorious at the TNP New Face 2011 finals that was held at Takashimaya Square on Thursday evening.

Her confident poise, vibrant sashay and megawatt smile won the judges over, reported TNP.

She walked away with $10,000 in cash, a $10,000 contract with cosmetic brand Maybelline, and also won two subsidiary titles - Subaru Miss Vivacious, and InnerShine Miss Radiant Skin.

17-year-old mass media management student Charlotte Hand and 19-year-old Marisa Ong took the second and third spots and won cash prizes of $5,000 and $3,000 respectively.

Lim's proud parents, Mr Lim Teck Keng, 46 and Madam Joanna Yew, 44, turned up at the competition's finals to show their full support for their daughter.

While Lim has no long term plans and prefers to "take it one day at a time", her parents told TNP that their daughter should pursue her passions "as long as they make her happy".

Past winners of TNP New Face who have moved on to be successful in the entertainment and modelling industries include actress Dawn Yeoh, Julie Tan, models Shahirah Price, Vivien Ong and Christabel Campbell.
