Angelina Jolie uses celebrity status for goodwill
by Vanessa Valerie Tay

WHILE she could remain comfortable enjoying her creature comforts and the fruits of her hard work, American actress Angelina Jolie chose to put aside time to visit refugee camps around the world.

The 35 year-old first became aware of humanitarian crises while filming Tomb Raider, the movie where she got her big break, in Cambodia. In August 2001, she was named a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and has been on field missions around the world, meeting with refugees in more than 20 countries to date.

Usually famous & wealthy celebrities apppointed as UNHCR goodwill ambassadors but what do they do exactly & who foot their travelling & accommodation bills? The UN or themselves? If they like Angelina wants the world to be aware of the sufferings of refugeees, most ppl wld hv known abt their plight except for those who don't read the papers or don't care at all. What function or work do they perform or just show their pretty/famous faces for publicity sake & at these camps briefly & later scoot out to their jets.
