Maya Karin: 'I am not divorced.'

First, there were rumours of her growing apart from husband Steven David Shorthose.

Now, the stories regarding actress Maya Karin's marital status has spread out of control, and the new spin is that the couple have divorced.

The pretty lass recently set the record straight, insisting that things are fine between her and Shorthose, also known by his Muslim name Muhammad Ali Steven.

"Stories about how we are divorced or facing problems with our marriage are baseless. Nothing has happened," she told mStar.

When asked to elaborate, Maya was quiet for a while before answering: "What I can say is that we are trying our best to strengthen our relationship as husband and wife.

"This is a young marriage and there're a lot of things that I need to learn, but nothing bad has happened."

Rumour-mongers have spread talk about how the two are no longer staying under one roof following friction in their marriage.

Maya shrugged it off: "The outsiders can say whatever they want because they don't know the truth. I wish to stress that we are still husband and wife and we lead our lives as usual."

Meanwhile, some have claimed that the Pisau Cukur actress is hiding the truth because she allegedly cheated on her husband.

Maya responded by stating her wish of keeping her private life to herself.

"My life, including my marriage, is my privacy. I hope everyone can respect my privacy.

"I try not to talk about such matters. I'm more comfortable keeping it to myself.

"Such matters, if commented or discussed, might complicate things. I'm worried that any statement that I make might worsen the situation," she concluded.
