Bear the burden

Their married life seemed fraught with difficulties.

Ms Chua’s ex-mother-in-law was difficult to get along with and she found herself having to bear the brunt of the household expenses as she earned more than her ex-husband, who was five years older than her.

Ms Chua’s friends told her they had seen him shopping with other women.

She said: “I didn’t believe them as we had been married only for over a year and I didn’t think he earned enough to fool around.”

But when one of her uncles claimed to have seen her ex-husband behaving intimately with another woman, she got suspicious. It didn’t help that he was keeping late nights, which he explained as beer-and-football sessions with friends.

She hired a private investigator who produced photos of her ex-husband kissing and hugging another woman during shopping trips in Orchard Road.
