We won’t settle for poker-straight and scanty lashes that refuse to budge.
We perm them so they look “naturally” curly – until the next session.
We’ve even glued fake ones on – the full fringes make our eyes look bigger, rounder and more doe-like, never mind that the time-consuming procedure makes us lose more lashes.
Dr Eileen Tan, dermatologist at Eileen Tan Skin, Laser and Hair Transplant Clinic, says lash length, thickness and lifespan is completely dependent on our genes “Lashes don’t grow any longer because their growth cycle is shorter than that of the hairs on the scalp.
They can grow 0.15mm during their anagen (growth) phase, which lasts one to two months, while scalp hair grows for two to six years.
Theoretically, that should translate to eyelashes having the potential to grow longer if we could prolong their lifespan and anagen phase.
Talika Lipocils, $69
This started out as an anti-bacterial cream to treat burns in WWII, but it significantly increases lash growth as well. It promises more, stronger and longer lashes. The French brand claims that some lashes can grow up to 2.5mm longer.
Mavala Double-Lash, $22
Promises to lengthen, thicken, strengthen and restore lashes, giving them a silky shine.
